The Pumpkin Tower

Lattin Farms in Fallon, Nevada, is the main farm for the CSA (community supported agriculture) subscription that I do every week from spring through autumn.   About this time every year, they do a fall festival with kid activities, pumpkin patch and corn maze.    The highlight of the festival is The Pumpkin Tower.

It’s super cool — check this out:

Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge, Nevada

The Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge is near Fallon, Nevada, and is about an hour east of Reno.    It is strangely listed as a ghost town on many websites but it is actually inhabited by a variety of Nevadans such as Paiute and Western Shoshone Indians, alfalfa farmers and a cattle rancher or two from Fallon.   There is a significant amount of history to the area and is a wildlife preserve for many wetland species even though it ironically borders a private hunting club.   The dichotomy of Stillwater is strong.   Sometimes, when the water is being released for the local farms, the area will be dry as a bone for miles and, when the water is plentiful, it is green as could be.   It’s like the Kalahari Desert of Nevada.

Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch

This weekend was the family trip to the pumpkin patch and we visited the corn maze at Lattin Farms in Fallon, Nevada.

Lattin Farms lights all of these pumpkins up in the evening for a spectacular show. Too bad, for us, it was too late for our little dude. Maybe, next year.

Important information to know …

The theme for this year’s maze was Nevada dairies. The maze was a cow with the “Got Milk?” logo and there were puzzle stops with questions about dairy cows.   You can see all the way to the pumpkin patch from the bridge inside the maze.
